🏉 Arthur Beetson
Arthur Beetson was born in Roma in 1945 and developed his early football with Roma Cities. As a teenager he played in the backs, experience that helped explain the handling and vision he later brought to the front row. A move through Redcliffe to Sydney led to representative football, Australian captaincy and premierships with Eastern Suburbs in 1974 and 1975. Beetson could make a forward’s hard work look unexpectedly inventive, creating opportunities with a pass as well as a charge. The NRL recognised him as an Immortal in 2003, following a playing journey that began in western Queensland.
🤝 Peter Flynn
Peter Flynn’s public contribution has centred on Roma and the wider Maranoa through local government, business and sport. Council’s profile records sixteen years as a Roma Town Council alderman before further service with the regional council. His sporting work included thirty-nine years as secretary of Roma District Rugby League, alongside involvement with the turf club. He also operated a local travel business. These are the less televised responsibilities behind a regional sporting culture: administration, organising and keeping institutions functioning between the major occasions. His biography connects civic service with the everyday networks of a town he grew up in.
